In the frame of MED 7, six thematic Workshops will be organised to implement the RTD Monitoring Committee's (MoCo) conclusions (S&T Barcelona Committee), by identifying scientific priorities and mechanisms for cooperation with regional impact in the short term.
The first 5 workshops will deal with topics identified by the MoCo ad hoc Committee Meeting in Carmona-Spain 04/06/2004 as cooperation priorities. A final assessment Workshop will discuss the results of the previous ones and serve as a synthesis.
The ultimate goal is to provide S&T work input for the preparation of the forthcoming "INCO-MED" activities.
The strategic objectives addressed by this action, are:
- Identify areas with potential for enhanced co-ordination between and with the Member States , the Candidate States , the Associated States and Third Partner Countries;
- Develop, promote, organise and structure the participation of INCO Target Countries in the activities of the Framework Programme, especially in the thematic priorities;
- Define comprehensive international co-operation schemes, including Community external and RTD policies;
- Strengthen co-ordination and complementarity with activities carried out by means of EC foreign policy instruments, specifically MEDA.
- Support particular joint efforts by the Community and the Member States to the opening up of the European Research Area to the rest of the world.
